PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren went down with an ankle injury against the Cincinnati Bengals . Warren was in for one snap, but the Steelers called a timeout and pulled him. He did not take another snap.

Mike Tomlin said after the game that he thinks Warren ‘was able to return’ but simply did not, signifying the injury could be minor. Kenneth Gainwell had two touchdowns in his place, but Warren has been an engine for the Steelers offense.

Warren, however, said the Steelers just wanted to be smart with his injury rather than push him to play further when Gainwell was playing well.

“I could have (returned), but it was part of being smart,” Warren said. “We got a lot of games ahead of us, so they’re looking out for me.”
