One lucky person in Georgia just won the Mega Millions jackpot.
On Friday, Nov. 14, a ticket purchased in Newnan, Georgia, around 37.7 miles southwest of Atlanta, matched all six numbers of the jackpot drawing and won the $983 million jackpot, according to a Mega Millions news release .
The historic ticket, which had an estimated cash value of $453.6 million, is also the largest lottery win in the state's history.
"We are thrilled to congratulate the largest winner in our state’s history," Gretchen Corbin, Georgia Lottery's president and CEO, said in a statement. "With every Mega Millions ticket sold in Georgia supporting HOPE and Pre-K, Georgia’s students and families are also big winners. We appreciate our players and retailers for their support of our mission."
