President Donald Trump endorsed candidate Emilio Gonzalez for mayor of Miami in a social media post on Sunday.
The announcement first shared on Truth Social reads in part: "As the former Director of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, and a brave U.S. Army Veteran, Emilio strongly supports our incredible Law Enforcement, Military, and Veterans, and knows the Wisdom and Courage it takes to ensure LAW AND ORDER."
Gonzalez, a former Miami City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer, was among the 13 candidates looking to become Miami's next mayor.
November's elections saw the field narrowed down to two: Gonzalez claimed 19% of the vote, coming in second to Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins , who claimed 36%.
