ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —
Albuquerque city councilors will vote on funding for the observation deck at the Sunport during their meeting Monday night.
Councilor Louie Sanchez sponsored the bill, emphasizing the need for planning before spending millions due to previous cost overruns and delays.
The Sunport observation deck, currently closed for renovations, offers views of three airport runways and is located after security.
Sanchez is proposing to allocate $1.5 million of the project's funding toward planning and design, including selecting a publicly accessible location. He also wants to move $5.6 million into a reserve that cannot be used until 90% of the design and cost estimate are completed.
