At long last, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced the end of its commercial flight restrictions at 40 major U.S. airports, which were put in place because air traffic control staffing issues sparked safety fears during the 43-day-long government shutdown—the longest in American history, which finally came to an end on November 12 .
Despite the U.S. air traffic controller situation still being a concern ( controllers' struggles have been 40 years in the making , after all), the FAA's announcement to rescind flight reductions was made on November 16 in a news release , which said its flight-reduction order will be lifted on November 17 at 6 AM ET, at which point commercial flight operations can resume as normal across the National Airspace System.
