Both the north and southbound lanes of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway closed on Monday morning following a crash and widespread dense fog, according to Causeway officials.
Right after 9 a.m., there was a 3-car crash on the southbound lane near the 11-mile marker that closed the southbound stretch, said Causeway General Manager Carlton Dufrechou. No one was injured, he said, and they have cleared the cars involved.
The northbound lanes of the bridge were closed shortly after the accident due to extreme weather, according to a post from the Causeway Police Department and the Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission's X page.
The fog is expected to keep the northbound lanes closed for at least an hour, according to the post.
One section of the southern half of the bridge has visibility
