Brad Schimel is being named the interim U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, a position he has eyed since falling short in his bid for state Supreme Court, multiple sources told the Journal Sentinel.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi appointed Schimel, the same process for other interim U.S. attorneys .

Typically, the state's U.S. senators recommend candidates for the position, and the president nominates one to the full Senate for approval. But the naming of an interim U.S. attorney, instead of nominating one for a full term, indicates that process broke down.
