Children face being deported from the UK under the Home Secretary’s hardline new plans to tackle the asylum crisis .
Shabana Mahmood’ s plan includes a move to toughen Britain’s approach towards the “many families of failed asylum seekers” who “continue to live in this country, receiving free accommodation and financial support, for years on end”.
A Home Office policy paper makes clear that this “hesitancy” will end in a bid to tackle “perverse incentives”, such as encouraging people to put children on small boats crossing the Channel who they are then later able to “exploit” to “thwart removal” even if their asylum claim is refused.
