1BROOKLYN, NY – A New York City police officer was shot in the face Monday morning during a confrontation with a homicide suspect in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn.
The officer’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery, according to police.
The incident began when officers responded to a fatal shooting around 6 a.m. near Linden Boulevard and Thomas Boyland Street.
Suspect returns to crime scene and opens fire
Police said the suspect, believed to be involved in the earlier killing of a 41-year-old man, returned to the scene around 7:45 a.m. and opened fire with a shotgun. It remains unclear whether the officer was struck by a direct blast or debris, but he sustained facial injuries.
