TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - A Toledo man faces multiple felony charges after police said he held a woman in the basement of his mother’s home and assaulted her multiple times.

Police arrested Deontay Buchanan, 29, on Sunday afternoon.

Investigators said he refused to allow the woman to leave his mother’s basement throughout the night.

During that time, he choked her, punched her in the face several times, and threatened her with a knife, according to court documents. He also took a phone from her, police said.

The woman had visible injuries to her neck and required medical attention at a local hospital, according to police.
