PHILADELPHIA — For the second time in a week, Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni made a late-game decision that had everyone scratching their heads.
Last Monday, up 10-7 against the Packers with 33 seconds left, Sirianni went for it on fourth-and-6 at Green Bay’s 35-yard line. The Eagles didn’t get it. Instead of punting it away to a team with zero timeouts, Sirianni handed Green Bay an opportunity to kick a game-tying field goal. Fortunately, Brandon McManus missed, and the decision didn’t bite him.
Six days later, Sirianni found himself breathing a familiar sigh of relief.
The Eagles were up on the Detroit Lions, 16-6, with three minutes to go. Philadelphia had the ball at its own 29-yard line, facing a fourth-and-inches. The Lions had all three timeouts.
