Late-night host John Oliver is auctioning off some of his show's most infamous props as part of a fundraiser to support local public media stations after the federal government cut their funding.
Oliver announced the auction on the most recent episode of the season for "Last Week Tonight," detailing how the federal government's decision to eliminate $1.1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting earlier this year has drastically impacted radio and TV stations, particularly in rural areas.
"This cut will be felt all over, but especially in rural and tribal communities," Oliver said Sunday in his opening monologue. "Public media provides enormous benefits to the communities it serves, and it has just suffered a gigantic blow."
