CLEVELAND — A North Olmsted man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his wife on Friday.
Joseph P. Halpin, 42, was arraigned Monday in Rocky River Municipal Court for the alleged murder of 39-year-old Laura Hoopengardner.
Police and fire personnel responded to 31376 Lorain Rd. after Halpin called 911 and told dispatchers his wife had suffered a bullet wound to the lower abdomen.
"The male further stated that he cocked the gun, and it went off in her," police said in a press release on Sunday.

"She's on the ground. She's scared," Halpin told the dispatcher.
