Thomas Tuchel is ready to throw several Newcastle United players a World Cup lifeline by reaching out to them to explain how they can make his squad for next year's tournament.

Tuchel has revealed he plans to make a raft of video calls to players who are on the fringes of his squad, as well as get around the country to speak to players in person.

One place he is likely to attend is St James' Park, with a raft of Newcastle stars fighting for a place in his 26-man gathering next summer. Tuchel included Dan Burn , Nick Pope and Anthony Gordon in his squad for the recent double-header against Serbia and Albania, although the latter two were forced to withdraw through injury.
