Powerful winds swept across the Hudson Valley on Sunday, Nov. 16, with several areas seeing gusts topping 40 to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS released its highest wind reports early Monday morning, Nov. 17, showing widespread strong gusts across Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester counties.
Westchester Sees Highest Winds
The strongest recorded gust in the region hit 55 mph at White Plains Airport around 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16, making Westchester County the hardest-hit area in the region.
In addition to the 55 mph gust at the airport, a 53 mph gust was recorded at Tappan Zee Light 14 just after 5:24 p.m. A 43 mph gust was also reported in Croton.
Orange County Gusts
Orange County saw several significant wind events Sunday, including a 48 mph gust in Otisville before noon. Both Stewart Airport and Montgomery Airport recorded 46 mph gusts, while Warwick saw winds up to 45 mph.
Putnam and Rockland Also Hit
Putnam County recorded gusts of 41 mph in both Brewster and Patterson.
Meanwhile, in Rockland County, the highest gust was 40 mph in Suffern around 3:50 p.m.
Monday's Forecast
According to the National Weather Service, gusts on Monday, Nov. 17, are expected to stay in the 30 to 40 miles per hour range. Because of the wind chill, temperatures will feel like the 30s for the region even though they are forecasted to be in the low to mid 40s, forecasters added.
