Michigan's top running back, Justice Haynes, is unlikely to return in the regular season.

Haynes has battled a foot injury this season, and he hasn't appeared in a game since a 152-yard performance in a win over rival Michigan State on Oct. 25. He reportedly underwent surgery earlier this month.

Though Fox announcer Gus Johnson revealed on the broadcast during Michigan's win over Northwestern on Saturday that Haynes will miss the remainder of the season, coach Sherrone Moore refuted that on Monday. However, he did concede that Haynes' regular season is likely done, meaning he will almost certainly miss the Wolverines' season finale against Ohio State as they look for their fifth straight win against their archrival.

Haynes was leading the team in rushing before his injury, and he has 857 yards and 10 touchdowns on the season. He has since been surpassed by teammate Jordan Marshall, but Haynes' 7.1 yards per carry still paces the team.

The Wolverines' run game hasn't suffered much without Haynes, as Marshall has gone for 100 or more yards in each of the last four games. Still, Michigan would like to have its running back rotation back at full strength for the postseason, as it's still vying for a College Football Playoff bid and could play for a Big Ten title if it can take down the Buckeyes.

The Wolverines face Maryland on the road in College Park on Saturday before returning home to host the Buckeyes in Ann Arbor on Nov. 29 to conclude the regular season.
