MADISON, Wis. — A person died following a vehicle fire on the frontage road of southbound Highway 51 at Buckeye Road Monday morning, according to officials. the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

This incident involved a vehicle fire that resulted from the vehicle crashing into a tree.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at 11:43 a.m., where the person was extricated from the vehicle and pronounced deceased, according to the Madison Fire Department.

The Madison Police Department is investigating this crash.

All northbound lanes on U.S. Highway 51 were closed due to the crash, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation said.

A WisDOT update from 12:12 p.m. indicated the closure was still ongoing.
