MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Newly released data from the West Virginia Department of Education shows public school enrollment continues to decline statewide, and Monongalia County is no exception — though local officials say the drop is smaller and more manageable than in many other parts of the state.

Superintendent Dr. Eddie Campbell confirmed this week that the district lost “almost 100 students” compared to last year, putting the county’s total decline at more than 500 students since 2018.

“Our numbers are down a bit, but we’re not seeing the dramatic declines that many of our neighboring counties are dealing with,” Campbell said. “We’re fortunate that Monongalia County continues to be one of the few places in the state that still attracts families.”
