A week after climbing five spots in the national rankings, Michigan State basketball stayed put.
The Spartans (3-0) remain No. 17 in the new AP Top 25, which was released on Monday afternoon. They’re coming off a 79-60 win at home against San Jose State on Thursday and will face No. 12 Kentucky (3-1) on Tuesday (6:30 p.m., ESPN) in the Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The Wildcats split a pair of games last week with a 96-88 loss at No. 6 Louisville before a 99-53 win against Eastern Illinois. They will be the second ranked opponent this season for the Spartans, who beat Arkansas at the Breslin Center two weeks ago.
Michigan State will close the week back at home by hosting Detroit Mercy (1-3) on Friday (6:30 p.m., BTN).
The Spartans are one of six Big Ten teams
