Newark has emerged from a dark weekend, with a 2-year-old boy pronounced dead after falling out of a 20th-floor window and a shooting that killed two people and injured three. Both events happened on Saturday, Nov. 15.

At about 7 a.m. on Saturday, police responded to Elizabeth Towers, 455 Elizabeth Ave., on a report that a child had fallen from the building, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The boy, unconscious and unresponsive with head injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.

Later that day, at approximately 7 p.m., multiple shots were fired in the 300 block of Chancellor Avenue in Newark’s South Ward. The shooting left two dead – including a 10-year-old boy and 21-year-old woman – and three injured.
