Disney debuted the first look at the live-action Moana on Monday, a direct adaptation of the 2016 animated film.
While there was a sequel to the animated film that hit theaters last fall, the original will get the live-action treatment from Broadway director Thomas Kail of Hamilton fame. Original writer Jared Bush is writing the script for the live-action adaptation alongside Dana Ledoux Miller.
Who is starring in the live-action adaptation? Well, one person in the cast will be pretty familiar, as he is a blockbuster movie star and is the voice of Maui in the animated movies.
We've run through all of the big casting decisions we know about so far below. You can check out the new trailer and poster for the Moana adaptation below, too, which will hit theaters on July 10, 2026.
Catherine Laga'aia as Moana
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Maui
John Tui as Chief Tui
Frankie Adams as Sina
Rena Owen as Gramma Tala
More cast members should be announced in the future.
