CLEVELAND, Ohio — As millions of Americans who rely on federal food assistance face delays in receiving their November benefits, the Cleveland Clinic is giving $2 million to food banks in the communities it serves.

The gift targets hunger relief efforts in Ohio, Florida and Nevada, the health system said Monday. The funding will help ease financial pressures for families facing food insecurity as the holiday season approaches, the Clinic said.

The disruption in the disbursement of federal food benefits, in the wake of the recent government shutdown, has created uncertainty for households depending on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which serves millions of children, elderly and disabled people.
