U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell announced that Somerset will receive $1.5 million in federal funding to begin planning and design for a new Army National Guard Readiness Center and Vehicle Maintenance Shop — a project that promises to modernize and expand the Guard’s operations in southeastern Kentucky.
The funding is part of the Fiscal Year 2026 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Conference Report, which President Trump signed into law earlier this week. Senator McConnell, a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, helped secure a total of $147 million in military construction funds for facilities across Kentucky.
