RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - AAA is projecting 82 million Americans to take to the skies or hit the roadways for Thanksgiving travel this year, marking a record number of holiday travelers.
The travel organization expects 90% of travelers to drive to their destinations rather than fly.
“Thanksgiving is usually a very dominant driving holiday. It really is a lot of people just driving a few hours to visit friends and family,” said Morgan Dean, AAA spokesperson.
Earl Bryan, who is driving six hours to New York to visit family, said driving is more convenient than flying.
“It’s kind of a hassle sometimes. So, I do enjoy driving. Take your time, go as you want and relax a little bit more,” Bryan said.
The FAA lifted flight restrictions on Monday in response to the government shutdown. Dean said
