SPRINGFIELD, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The South Dakota Department of Corrections said on Monday that an inmate has died at the Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield, and SDDCI is investigating the case.

Timothy Tyree, age 46, was found unresponsive in his bed on Monday, November 17.

He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he passed away.

Tyree was serving a sentence for possession of a controlled substance from Minnehaha County at the time of his death.

The Division of Criminal Investigation and the Department of Corrections Office of the Inspector General are investigating the death.
