Dallas interstate overhaul faces funding gap, won't start until after 2029

The Brief

TxDOT received environmental clearance for the plan to transform the I-345 interstate in Downtown Dallas from an elevated bridge to a below-street-level roadway.

The $1.7 billion project still needs to secure roughly $1 billion in funding, though TxDOT is confident in eventual sources from gas taxes and state propositions.

Construction on I-345 is not expected to start until 2029, after the years-long, preceding I-30 "Canyon Project" is completed.
