COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Columbus Fire & EMS will begin issuing citations for all fire lane violations starting January 1, 2026.
The enforcement follows Columbus Code of Ordinances and the International Fire Code with Georgia Amendments, according to city officials.
Fire lanes must remain clear at all times, with parking, standing or blocking designated areas prohibited. The lanes ensure firefighters and EMS crews have immediate access during emergencies.
Fire & EMS inspectors will issue tickets for violations beginning January 1. Each day a fire lane remains obstructed may count as a separate offense.
Property owners are responsible for compliance, including proper marking, maintenance and keeping lanes unobstructed. Officials said property owners should verify that signage and pavement
