VILLAGE OF PALMYRA, Wis. (WKOW) -- The Village of Palmyra is backing away from a controversial partnership with federal immigration authorities. After weeks of review and receiving feedback, village leaders officially backed out of an agreement with ICE.

The issue became public back in September, when Palmyra residents learned the police department had submitted a 287g Task Force application to the Department of Homeland Security. Currently 14 Wisconsin sheriff's offices are already participating in that program:

Brown County, Calumet County, Fond du Lac County, Kewaunee County, Manitowoc County, Marathon County, Marquette County, Outagamie County, Sheboygan County, Washington County, Waukesha County, Waushara County, Winnebago County and Wood County.
