COLUMBIA, S.C. — A late-night shooting Saturday at a home neighbors say was being used as an Airbnb has shaken Columbia’s Earlewood community, raising concerns about short-term rentals and neighborhood safety.
Columbia Police say they responded to the 1100 block of Darlington Street on Saturday night after reports of shots fired. When officers arrived, they say they found multiple bullet holes in the walls of the home, along with other property damage. Investigators collected evidence on scene.
Joseph Smith, a retired police officer who lives nearby, said the activity that night stood out immediately.
“There were a lot of kids in the area, which is unusual. Everybody's in the house ten o'clock at the latest, and it's usually very quiet in the evening time here,” Smith said.
