The Coalition has been looking to reduce the annual net migration intake by at least 100,000 to ease pressure on housing, healthcare, schools, and infrastructure.
It comes after One Nation was rated the preferred party to handle immigration ahead of both Labor and the Coalition.
One Nation had proposed cutting the migration intake by more than 500,000, while the Coalition has considered a cut of 100,000 or more.
Shadow home affairs minister Jonathon Duniam told Sky News that while the Coalition anticipates a reduction, no fixed number would be plucked “out of thin air”.
He said the most recent data showed the migration intake was about 1000,000 over the ten-year average, so that was probably a “sensible number”.
