KANSAS CITY, Ks. (KCTV) -A Wyandotte County Sheriff’s deputy accused of kneeling on an inmate’s back for more than a minute will appear virtually for a first hearing on Tuesday.
Charles Adair died while in custody at the Wyandotte County Jail in July. Deputy Richard Fatherley was placed on unpaid leave after the State of Kansas Coroner’s Report ruled his death was a homicide .
Fatherley received a criminal summons to appear in court, rather than an arrest warrant. He has not been booked into jail yet, and no mugshot is available.
KCTV5 requested cameras in the courtroom because of the serious nature of the charge, but the request was denied. Fatherley’s lawyers told KCTV5 they don’t expect him to be arrested on Tuesday.
Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson called the situation
