KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Crews have begun work on a new greenway in Fountain City that will give walkers and cyclists a safer, more scenic route around one of Knoxville’s busiest traffic hubs.
The half-mile Adair Park/Sue Clancy Greenway Extension will run along Lynnhurst Creek, linking Adair Park and neighborhoods north of the Interstate 640/Broadway interchange with communities south of Sharps Ridge.
Last week, workers began by clearing underbrush to make way for a 10-foot path that will initially be a packed dirt trail reinforced with gravel. The city plans to pave the connector in the future.
City officials said the project will help thousands of nearby residents avoid the dense traffic where I-640 meets Broadway — an area the city has targeted in recent years to improve pedestrian safety
