After one season in the Port City, Steve Brooks is out as Laney High School's head football coach.

Brooks announced his decision Monday, Nov. 17, in a post on X, saying he would step away from the program.

"I made the tough decision today to step down as the head coach at Laney," Brooks wrote in a post on X.

Brooks arrived from Jacksonville after Luke Little stepped down earlier this year. He was hired only weeks after Little's departure and quickly took over the area's largest public school program.

"I thought I could balance being away from family during the week and coaching while still being a dad and leader of our family. I could not and it was not fair to our players or coaches to be spending so much time going back and forth to Greenville and Greensboro and not being in Wilmin
