Since President Donald Trump took office in January, he’s rolled back green energy policies in favor of fossil fuel production. His signature tax and spending law, signed over the summer, mandated three dozen new oil and gas leases in federal waters of the Gulf and Alaska.
And now the administration appears poised to open up drilling leases off the coast of California for the first time in decades.
The plan, which was first reported by the Washington Post, will be announced in the coming weeks, with the Interior Department telling Spectrum News it plans to propose a five-year plan for oil and gas leases on the outer continental shelf by the end of the year.
The White House declined to comment.
