JEFF DAVIS, La. (KPLC) - Voters in Jeff Davis Parish voted against rededicating some of the funds from an existing jail maintenance and operations tax toward the new parish animal shelter .

Jeff Davis Parish Administrator Ben Boudreaux says the jail receives $3.3 million in taxes, and only $300,000 of that would’ve been used to support animal shelter operations.

“These are both located on the same property, and there is a lot of duplication of services. We could be very efficient with the way we use our personnel for maintenance, and we thought it was a great idea and very logical, since those two properties were together on the same property,” Boudreaux said.
