A Victoria Park footbridge has been closed after lighting fell from the structure on Monday afternoon, just missing a cyclist.
A light strip on one of the poles of the Boorloo Bridge, which was opened to the public less than a year ago, came toppling down before 5pm on Monday.
It is understood the falling lights almost hit a lady who was bike riding on the path at the time.
The incident has prompted Main Roads WA to close the footbridge as well as that section of the river being shut to boats.
Police were also on scene on both sides of the bridge to turn away pedestrians and cyclists who were trying to cross.
The broken light was strewn across the pathway and river before it was removed and loaded onto a truck.
Exposed wires from the lights remain on the bridge.
