US President Donald Trump on Monday indicated that he is open to authorising strikes against Mexican drug cartels and even carrying out military operations inside Mexico to curb the flow of narcotics into the United States.
“Would I launch strikes in Mexico to stop drugs? It’s OK with me. Whatever we have to do to stop drugs," Trump said when asked at the White House whether he would consider a US counter-drug mission in Mexico. “I didn’t say I’m doing it, but I’d be proud to do it. Because we’re going to save millions of lives by doing it."
The president accused Mexico of failing to rein in powerful trafficking groups. His comments come as Washington ramps up its military presence in the Caribbean, a move the administration says is aimed at disrupting drug networks across Latin America,
