For the first time ever, Nebraska elected its first kid governor.
The role gives one fifth-grade student the chance to serve the Cornhusker State, and on Monday, a student at Meadows Elementary in Ralston was voted to represent classrooms across Nebraska.
Charlie Couch will be the first to serve in the position. She's a fifth-grader who ran on some policy that’s hard to argue with.
“I just want everyone to feel like they are loved and supported,” Couch said.
Kid Governor is new to Nebraska. Fifth-grade teacher Ben Billisbach at Meadows Elementary helped organize the election.
“I was really excited hearing the actual election aspect where kids got to actually vote, be a part of an actual election. And being 10 or 11 years old is pretty cool,” Billisbach said.
