FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio — The Franklin County Juvenile Court is expanding its diversion program in an effort to prevent young people from reoffending. The initiative will now include first-time offenders who commit nonviolent, low-level felonies.
Lead Juvenile Judge Lasheyl Stroud said the types of eligible cases will include “receiving stolen property, drug offenses and vandalism.”
Rather than being sentenced in court, those juveniles may be recommended for a 90-day diversion program by the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office. Participation requires the approval of the victim.
As part of the process, youth and victims have an opportunity to engage directly.
