Flight restrictions are over, but ripple effects of shutdown could continue

Flight restrictions that derailed passengers and cargo shipments during the government shutdown ended on Monday, with the Thanksgiving travel rush just around the corner.

Airlines for America, a trade association that represents major airlines, previously warned that it may take some time to ramp up services again, but the group didn't provide a timeline for restoring full operations in response to emailed questions on Monday. Advertisement

"We look forward to welcoming 31 million passengers—a new record—to flights during this year’s Thanksgiving travel period, which begins this Friday, and to continue preparing for the busy shipping season," Airlines for America said in a statement.
