Pat Carbery’s pursuit of a maiden Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) is on track having passed preliminary concussion checks with flying colours.

The rider of sprint sensation Jokers Grin, Carbery was forced to take a back seat for the gelding’s Colonel Reeves (1100m) win on the weekend after a race fall on Thursday.

However, Carbery’s progress suggests there will be no issue with him returning to the saddle for Ascot’s $1.5 million feature on Saturday week.

“When I saw the doctor on Friday, he classed it as a mild concussion,” Carbery told SEN’s Giddy Up.

“It certainly knocked me around but I’m back on track now and I just have to go through the concussion protocols of the 12 days, and get back into it.

“I guess it’s different to the footy players how they can still train to a point
