Sensex Today: Indian equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty ended their six-day winning streak on Tuesday, closing lower amid weak global cues as investors turned cautious ahead of key US economic data that could shape expectations of a potential Federal Reserve rate cut next month.
The BSE Sensex declined 277.93 points (0.33%) to finish at 84,673.02, while the NSE Nifty50 slipped 103.4 points (0.40%) to close at 25,910.05.
Broader markets also weakened, with the Nifty MidCap index down 0.59% and the Nifty SmallCap index falling 1.05%.
All sectoral indices closed in the red, led by Nifty Realty (-1.91%), Nifty IT (-1.1%), and Nifty Metal (-1.07%).
Among Sensex stocks, Tech Mahindra, Eternal, Infosys, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, and Adani Ports were the top drags
