CHEEK, Texas — Dozens of Cheek residents and community members met Monday night to voice concerns and learn more about a proposed ExxonMobil carbon capture facility planned for western Jefferson County.
The meeting came less than a week after the Railroad Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency granted ExxonMobil the rights for the project’s permit.
Residents, environmental scientists, attorneys and elected officials gathered for a town hall where 12News was present. The meeting focused on the potential health, environmental and legal implications of the company’s Rose CCS project , which would include an 18-mile pipeline carrying CO₂ from Mid-County to western Jefferson County.
Members of the Cheek community say they fear the project will be too close to their homes. The
