Eragon author Christopher Paolini approves of a fan-favorite casting choice for the upcoming Disney+ show. It was announced in 2022 that an Eragon series was in the works at Disney+. The beloved fantasy novel was previously adapted as a movie in 2006, but it was panned by critics and fans of the books, and it was not successful enough to warrant adaptations of the other novels.

Since 2022, there have been minimal updates on the series' progress at Disney+ , although Paolini did provide an update in February 2025 that the "show is still on track" and that he couldn't say anything else until an important contract was signed.
