Days after the Trump administration appealed an order preventing the National Guard from being deployed to Portland's ICE facility, some of the troops may stay under federal control for longer than expected.
One hundred Oregon National Guard members and 200 California National Guard members who have been under federal control but unable to deploy to Portland for seven weeks have been directed to demobilize, Gov. Tina Kotek confirmed Nov. 17.
The remaining 100 Oregon troops will remain under federal control for longer.
The directive to the Oregon National Guard came from the U.S. Army Northern Command, Kotek said.
A federal judge ruled Nov. 7 that the deployment was unlawful but allowed the 200 Oregon National Guard members to remain under federal control until Nov. 21.
