MONROE, La. (KNOE) - New fines will now be placed on certain heavy trucks entering Millhaven and Presidential Estates in Monroe.

Ouachita Parish Police Juror Michael Thompson says this comes after receiving complaints about how heavy trucks are “messing up” the roads in those subdivisions.

“I’ve heard from constituents in a lot of those areas, in both areas actually, that these trucks are going up and down the roads,” Thompson said. “Sometimes they’re going fast, they’re stopping real fast in the roads, or they’re just doing all kinds of things from day-to-day, and it’s just not good for our roads. We want to do whatever we can to mitigate that problem.”

The ordinance passed by the Police Jury would weigh heavy fines up to $500. Thompson says there are some exceptions to this rule.
