Due to cold temperatures at night and heat during the day, railway tracks contract and expand, often leading to cracks. On Tuesday, at 7:32 am, a crack was detected on the down slow line between Vikhroli and Kanjurmarg . As a result, services on the down slow line were halted, affecting thousands of commuters. Local trains were backed up one after another on the route.

Train schedules towards Kalyan and Thane were severely disrupted, causing major inconvenience to passengers. Students, office-goers, workers, and small business owners faced delays in reaching their destinations. With slow-line services suspended, several trains were diverted to the fast line, causing some services to skip their regular slow-line stations.
