The Roswell Police Department has received a new armored vehicle from the New Mexico Municipal League, a nonprofit advocacy group that supports municipal government entities.

Their goal is to reduce the militarization of the police force and to use less force when policing the city of Roswell. Alex Barleen of the Roswell PD gave insight into the use of this new armored vehicle and the desired outcomes of the Roswell PD in addressing violent situations.

“It allows us to safely transport officers to and from high-risk scenes,” Barleen said.

These high-risk situations include high-risk search warrants, such as shooter suspects or areas with high-risk narcotics activities where firearms may be involved.
