Adam Voges, a frontrunner to replace Andrew McDonald as Australian head coach when his contract expires in 2027, has quit his job as Western Australia’s head coach to take up new roles on the Twenty20 franchise circuit.

Having coached the WA program to a hat-trick of Sheffield Shield victories, plus a quartet of one day cups, since taking over from Justin Langer in 2018, Voges told the state’s administrators, staff and players on Tuesday that this would be his final season in charge.

Voges, 46, will continue to coach the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League, having also won two BBL titles during his time in the job.
