MEDINA, Ohio – Members of council are working to come up with a plan to provide food to city residents in need this holiday season.
Council President John Coyne brought up the topic during a Nov. 10 council meeting.
“Even with the government reopening it could take weeks before food gets to the people who need SNAP benefits,” Coyne said. “The holiday season is coming up, and these are people who need food now. During COVID times, we gave grants to the businesses so I think we can come up with something where we can help feed people who need it.”
Members of council agreed that the city isn’t in the business of giving money directly to those in need, but they want to financially support an organization that can get food to city residents who are eligible for SNAP benefits.
